Dear American Heart Association-Nutrition, Physical
Activity and Metabolism Council Member:
The next Scientific Sessions and Annual
Meeting of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) will be held
in
As an AHA-NPAM member, you save $100+ on registration! The early registration deadline is February
6, 2008! This meeting is a can't-miss
event for over 13,000 scientists and allied health professionals. ASN values our strong relationship with AHA-NPAM,
and we also invite you to submit abstracts for
presentation at the 2008 Scientific Sessions.
CME credits are available! The ASN Annual Meeting is designated for a
maximum of 48 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Medical education includes “From Molecules to Consumers: Dietary Guidelines Evolving
to Personalized Nutrition,” a day-long professional development
special symposium on Friday, April 4. ASN's Medical Nutrition Council has also arranged a symposium on
“Emerging Therapies in Intestinal Failure: Growth Factors and Beyond” Saturday,
April 5.
Other scientific programming throughout the meeting
includes symposia, lectures, conferences, controversy debates, updates and
more. ASN's premier keynote lectures are
scheduled, including the Presidential
Symposium, the E.V. McCollum
International Lecture (“The World is Fat: Understanding the Patterns of the
Nutrition Transition”), and the W.O.
Atwater Lecture. Symposia will
address urgent issues, including the Presidential Symposium on “Leptin: Weight
Management and Beyond.” Delivering this
keynote is Jeffrey Friedman, M.D., Ph.D. Rockefeller University Professor,
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Director of the
Of course, as in the past, a vital component of the program will include abstract-driven minisymposia
and poster sessions. The ASN Research Interest Sections
will program many of these sessions – be sure to take note of our many
Sections, such as Aging and Chronic Disease and Nutrition Translation: From
Bench to Consumer. Medically oriented
minisymposia include: Nutrition Support; Comprehensive Weight Management;
Nutritional Interventions for Health Promotion; Nutrient-Gene Interactions;
Epigenetics; Nutrigenomics and Nutriproteomics; Functional Genomics and
Proteomics; and Genetic Polymorphisms and Response to Nutrient Intakes. New Sections are currently in development,
including Sections focused on Obesity and Nutrition Assessment.
The ASN program
at EB 2008 will also include special
social events. Our Awards Ceremony
will highlight the preeminent researchers, clinicians and emerging scientists
in the nutrition field. Additional
social events include the Annual Meeting Reception and University Mixer, ASN
Business Meeting, Fellows Luncheon, and many other networking opportunities. Greet old friends and meet new ones at our
2008 annual meeting!
As our
associations collaborate to build healthier lives and eliminate the growth of
obesity and diabetes, we reinforce our shared goals. Another example of this cooperation is ASN's
co-sponsorship of the AHA NPAM & Council on Epidemiology and Prevention Joint Conference
scheduled for March 11-15, 2008 in
We look forward
to seeing you in
