NEW: Dennis Bier, MD Young Career Editor Position

The inaugural Young Career Editor will help shape and define this new position to promote and expand journal content to target audiences, from technical experts to the general public. Ultimately, this person will help The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) broaden its public voice, continuing its tradition of innovation and excellence in science publishing.

Applicants must:

  • Be a junior faculty/early career professional (within 5 years of terminal degree)
  • Have experience in nutrition research and publishing
  • Demonstrate a passion for communicating nutrition science and an ability to innovate and think creatively

NEW: Ajinomoto Young Investigator Pilot Grant

This award provides a one-time $10,000 pilot grant for a young investigator to pursue basic or applied research investigating the sodium reduction attributes of umami-related compounds under healthy or therapeutic conditions.

Applicants must:

  • Be an ASN member residing in the United States
  • Be junior faculty (within 10 years of terminal degree)
  • Have demonstrated an interest in amino acid nutrition, cardiovascular nutrition, sensory science, or behavioral health

Herbalife Nutrition Scholarship

The American Society for Nutrition Foundation in partnership with Herbalife Nutrition is pleased to continue the Herbalife Nutrition Scholarship program which began in 2019. The ASN Foundation will award a $5,000 scholarship to support the research and/or clinical training of a promising student seeking an advanced degree in nutrition or related field. The scholarship is directed to Registered Dietitians (RD) or those intending to become an RD.

Applicants must:

  • Be an ASN member residing in the United States
  • Be accepted/enrolled in a post-baccalaureate MS, MPH, PhD, ScD, DrPH or clinical health science graduate program
  • Have demonstrated an interest in sports nutrition, cardiovascular nutrition, aging, dietary bioactive components, microbiome, vitamins and minerals, wellness nutrition, weight management, behavioral health nutrition, nutrition education for the public and/or public health/community nutrition
  • Receive counsel and direction from a sponsor identified by the applicant who is an ASN member investigator or clinical educator

Predoctoral Fellowships for Students in Nutrition Research

The ASN Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships fund outstanding research projects proposed and conducted by ASN members enrolled in a United States graduate program in nutrition. Fellowship grants range from $2,000 to $5,000. 

Applicants must:

  • Be an ASN member residing in the United States
  • Be enrolled in a United States graduate program in nutrition

Clinical Nutrition Internship Program

The Clinical Nutrition Internship Program (CNIP) is designed for medical students to foster interest in the role of nutrition in the practice of medicine, medical research, health promotion and disease prevention.

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a medical or osteopathic medicine program
  • Be able to travel to the internship site and participate for 8 weeks usually between months of May-August at their own expense, or arrange for local mentorship and experiences at their institution (see website for available locations)
  • Document ability to sustain interest and further advance understanding of clinical nutrition within medical school following the internship and provide acknowledged support of the applicant’s advisor
